Broke up with Lincoln this morning. This time for real. I actually left a CD of a nasty breakup song ("Bye Bye" by Jo Dee Messina) in his mailbox, so I suspect this one will stick.

He called me this morning asking for a ride to work, not unusual, so I went to pick him up. He asked to stop at the grocery store. I waited for him in the car. He came out and bitched bitterly about how cheerful the cashier was. Now, I know he's not the most chipper guy in the morning (it wasn't even that early--it was 9:00), but how can he actually fault someone else for trying to be nice to him? What a jerk. So I told him that his attitude needed some major improvement, which started a huge fight. To make a long story short, when we got to the Bohemian, he invited me not to see him anymore. I made the CD. It is finished.

You know, I was just sick of spending 80% of our time together wondering what I had done to piss him off. He has every reason in the world to be deliriously happy: a great job (an advancement in his field--this is the first job he's had where he's had any responsibility at all and now he's THE CHEF), a good income, a cute apartment, good friends, a happy family, and he HAD a sweet girlfriend, but he will take any excuse he can find to be miserable. That's no fun and it's definitely not sexy. He can be an insufferable grouch at times. When he's with me, I'm still alone. So if I'm alone, I at least want to have the option of finding someone. Miserable bastard. At least my son said he would be my best friend.

I celebrated with a few shots of straight rum and a beer. No more promises to keep to Lincoln. Oh, and I'm wearing the clothes I bought him for Christmas. Sad that we're actually about the same size--34 waist and 34 inseam. I'll work on that.

Well, my son is going to give me a backrub to make me feel better (he is my new best friend after all), so I'm done.
